Portfolio Project Genre #2

Hi welcome back. Today I will be diving into the genre 'slice of life'.

    Slice of life presents everyday moments, emphasizing on the emotions of the character rather than the plot. Although it does have a minimal plot line. Slice of life prioritizes realism of the character, their emotions, and overall story. 

    Audience of this genre tend to be teens, 13 to early 20s. Viewers who enjoy emotional depth, realism, realism, value character driven story over plots twists or action, people who enjoy watching everyday experiences, and relatability. The content that slice of life includes focus on everyday life, growing up- physically or mentally, friendships and relationships, loneliness, self identity, daily routine, etc. Characters' growth is gradually presented. Setting includes: home, school, cafe, neighborhoods, small town. Techniques being utilized: slow editing, dialogues, mid shots, long shots, focus on body language.

    Narrative image is perceived as real, relatable, or emotional. Marketing includes trailers which focuses on the atmosphere and what already trying to create that relatable connection with the audience to the character. Posters with soft and/or natural color scheme.

Focuses on teenage life and mother-daughter relationship.

Revolves around feelings and heavily emotion driven.

Shows the harsh reality that some people have to face.
(I would highly recommend this!!! It's on Netflix, one of the best films I have seen.)

Portfolio Project Genre#1

 Hello welcome back. Today the genre I have picked to research is thriller.

    Thriller is meant to provoke intense emotions, whether it is despair or excitement. Thriller creates suspense and anticipation of the unknown. Anticipation can very through out from political problems to something supernatural. There is a variety of thrillers such as: psychological, action, supernatural, and many more. I would like to put my focus specifically on psychological thriller. All kinds of thriller have their own unique thing that sets them apart of the rest despite having certain things in common. For psychological thriller it would be how it really explores the human mind.

    Typical audience for this genre are late teens to adults(15-45). Viewers who enjoy suspense, danger, adrenaline, mental health issues, and morality. Films with psychological thriller focus on mental and emotional states of the characters such as internal conflict. They tend to have unreliable narrators or distorted point of view of reality. Themes it usually revolves around are, sense of identity, obsession, internal conflict, etc. Protagonist is often mentally unstable and/ or isolated; antagonist typically is the protagonist's own mind if not than another character such as an abuser. Techniques found being  utilized: lighting: low-kye lighting, cool tones, shots: close-ups, mid shots, handheld, sound: diegetic sounds, sudden silence, editing: jump cuts, flashbacks, slow pacing, mise-en-scene includes: small spaces, symbolic objects such as mirrors, pills, clocks etc. 

    The Narrative image tends to be dark and serious often perceived as "mind twisted." Trailers give as little information as possible, rather focusing more so on the vibe and mood of it. Poster's color theme includes black, grey, cool tone colors. Faces blurred or with memory fragments to give the eerie vibe.

Black Sawn is an example of psychological thriller:

It explores an unhealthy obsession with perfectionism. Uses of mirrors and hallucinations which gets the audience who wonder what is real or not as it also has an unreliable narrator.

Another great example would be "Gone Girl"

Heavy on manipulation and psychological control. Unreliable narration from multiple characters.

Transitioning into the Cambridge Portfolio Project

    From this point on, every post I will make will be related to my portfolio project. Which is a part of my Cambridge final. I am excited to embark on this new journey. Although I am a bit nervous for the overall project, because we are suppose to make a 2 minute film opening and I am not as creative as I thought. Moving on, from here on out I plan to look at many different film opening with the genre that I end up picking. This is to help me spark ideas and creativity as I hove none yet. I really appreciate my teacher showing us past student created projects, they give me an idea of what is expected from me and because I really enjoy watching others creations and visons coming to life. 
Here are the notes I took in class to help me with this final project:

    I would like to develop the character through mise-en-scene, specifically symbolic objects and lighting. As of right now I want to give my character a melancholy vibe, so for lighting I was thinking cool tones. I want to be able to portray emotions with minimal dialogs or without any at all so I believe through what I have learned the past year the best way is through mise-en-scene elements, lighting, shots, and editing. With mise-en-scene I won't only develop character but also context of the scene.

Blog Posting - Music Marketing #2

 

Music Marketing #1

     

    The research was an interesting aspect as I really got to deep dive into artist's promoting and branding style as well as personal lives. The process was not as hard as expect; very straight forward. While during the research I found something out about the artist life that I didn't know yet. For instants, Lana Del Rey had gotten married recent. The research part was very enjoyable and just as knowledgeable. 

            

Mise-en-scene

 In our Mise-en-scene project we had to create a character, give them a name, description, likes, dislikes, and make and interactive project. Mine and my team-mate character's name is Angelina. She is a 28 year old women with a husband and a dog named teddy. She likes to watch movies and make blog posts of them as a over all review of what Angelina though of the movie. Angelina is an outgoing person; loves to hang out with her friends, go on night walks, and she also has an artistes liking to painting, as well as doing her makeup. 

To illustrate our character we decided to create and interactive game and a physical interactive aspect. The interactive game included; description of Angelina, her room which the player could interact with, mood board, and finally the main part- doing Angelina's make-up. With the physical aspect, my team mates had made Angelina's room on a board, which was of course interactive. Dressing up Angelina was another physical interactive thing we included. On our character station we had 4 computer with the game already open and ready for the players to play. The board and dress up was together in the center of the table.

To develop our character, we used selection by highlighting her artsy side for example, her love for make-up, as it can be seen in the interactive game. Her trope isn't just an artistic person, but also a movie lover which can be seen in her room with all the movie poster Angelina has up on the wall. 

I think me and my group did a good job when it came to creating the mood board and the interactive aspect of the project. Something I would really like to improve would be to include more of Angelina's movie lover side and blog posting about those movies. Angelina's' interaction with her friends, going out for parties, and night walks, her overall outside life which my group was lacking on. Overall I believe me and my group did an ok job, but there is a lot of room for improvement.

Sound blog🎵🎙️

     During the sound lesson I learned the different sound editing techniques such as layering. Foley sounds was another concept that was learned through lesson videos. How sound producers use objects, from grapes and a taser to guns, in order to create specific sounds. 

    2 sound projects were assigned; sound project #1 and sound project #2.

    In sound project #1, First we needed to pick a concept of what our overall project was going to be about. Me and my partner choose "hunted house." Than it required a basic outline with scenes and what sounds we are going to utilize in those specific scenes. Finally, we were required to put the sounds together to create a scene with only sound, no video. Approaching this project, it was obvious the scene we would pick needed to be one where a lot of sounds could be produced from. During the brain storming, since me and my partner picked hunted house, we choose sounds that would build up suspense and thrill. The outline helped us a lot with organizing the sounds as we could always go back to it and see when a sound would occur, or which sounds needed to be layered. When editing I used clip champ; layering and messing around with sound volume was utilized a lot. I also utilized foley sounds I had created and sounds from free sounds. Over all I think I did well with the sound layering and overlapping. What I would like to improve though would be, the timing, when same sounds occur at the same time.

    In sound project #2, it was similar to #1, pick sounds, create an outline, put it all together. The only difference was this time we were required to use the OWF video we had done earlier. With the OWF, it was stated to pick and create sounds that would go well with the video. During brain storming, I was taking in account the background noise or sounds as little as a pen being put down that would be in the video. The outline helped with knowing when sounds are meant to over lap, and what scene would use what sounds. With editing I again used foley sounds I had created and sounds from free sounds. I think I needed to work on the timing more of when the sounds need to occur. But overall I think I did an ok job.
